Additional Latin American countries designate the Chilean PTO as PCT ISA/IPEA
The Colombian, Mexican, Costa Rican and Salvadorian PTOs have specified the National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI) in Chile as a competent International Searching and Preliminary Examining Authority (ISA/IPEA). This applies to PCT applications filed by nationals and residents of these countries with local PTOs as receiving offices.
These Latin American PTOs have joined the Cuban, Ecuadorian, Panamanian and Chilean offices, which designated INAPI as a competent ISA/IPEA taking effect from October 2014, when INAPI started functioning as an ISA/IPEA.
“The fact that, in such a short period of time, eight of the 14 Latin American countries have already specified INAPI as ISA/IPEA shows that the regional IP community trusts the quality of our examiners and the great work developed by our PCT department,” said Maximiliano Santa Cruz, Director General of INAPI.
