BPTO Changes Process for Agreement Recordals
Through Resolution 135/2014, the BPTO has adopted a new numbering system for applications for the record of agreements and invoices, as well as establishing a new deadline requirement for complying with office actions raised by that entity. The new numbering system meets international standards suggested by WIPO.
The application numbers will be released at the time of submission. It will be made up of the country code, followed by thirteen numbers, the final digit being for application verification purposes. An example of the new numbering follows below:
BR ZZ XXXX YYYYYY K
BR = Country Code (Brazil)
ZZ = Nature of protection
XXXX = Application year
YYYYYY = Entry order number
K = Application verification number.
The new deadline for complying with office actions will be one, non-extendable, sixty-day term, beginning from the date of notification.
