Campaign to reduce software piracy
For the third consecutive year, the Peruvian PTO (INDECOPI) has launched an advertising campaign to promote the use of legitimate software among Peruvian firms.
To help companies make the right choices, the following website lists companies where legitimate software can be bought and all the legislation concerning IP matters can be found: www.compralegalyoriginal.pe
INDECOPI will require firms to check that they have the necessary software licenses in comparison to the amount of computers they own and the software installed in them. In addition, the firms will receive a request to answer to this formal notice. If they do not reply to this request, the local PTO will carry out surprise audits.
In light of the above, it is important to keep in mind that acquiring illegitimate software puts the computer’s information in risk. According to the local legislation, it is possible to be fined for use of illegitimate software and also can implicate criminal penalties (up to 8 years in prison).
