On September 23, 2015, the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) and the National Directorate of Industrial Property of Uruguay (DNPI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation on industrial property and information technology matters. The MOU was signed by Miguel Ángel Margáin, Director General of IMPI, and Marianela Delor, Director General of DNPI.
This agreement is aimed at strengthening the cooperation between the offices, promoting financial and technological exchanges, as well as encouraging the commercialization and negotiation of intellectual property rights.
The PTOs “should work proactively to manage that users visit our offices before they detect a problem regarding intellectual property rights, as part of the process they should follow to protect their creations,” said Margáin.
The MOU includes the following cooperation activities:
- Promoting and exchanging experiences, knowledge and best practices on awareness and dissemination of IP.
- Exchange of experts to participate in training and IP advice activities.
- Collaboration on the development and operation of automation technological systems for the administration, examination and granting of patent and design applications.
- Exchange of technical information such as search reports and patentability opinions for the processing of patent applications.
