Cooperation agreement regarding the use of legitimate software
On February 19, 2015, the Mexican PTO (IMPI) and the BSA (Business Software Alliance) signed a convention aiming to promote the use of legitimate software in that country. The agreement was subscribed between IMPI and the BSA for the period of 2015-2016.
One of the objectives of this agreement is to promote the innovation of technology and to develop new industries for Mexico. For the development of this area of the local economy, it is necessary to strengthen the relationships between public and private firms, so they understand the importance of software in their productivity.
In the near future, IMPI and BSA will expand their actions to raise awareness to reduce technology risks.
Mr. Kiyoshi Tsuru, a representative of the BSA, explained that the coordinated actions between IMPI and BSA helped in the reduction of the software piracy index. In the period of 2005 to 2013, Mexico reduced from 65% to 54% the indexes of software piracy. This reduction is likely the result of the cooperation between IMPI and BSA.
