Cooperation settlements regarding IP matters
The National Office of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI) recently signed international cooperation agreements regarding IP matters with European institutions to promote and increase the use of industrial property systems and the protection of intangible assets. These achievements came during the “50th Session of the Assemblies of Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)” held in Geneva, Switzerland.
INDECOPI and the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed to establish an accelerated patent procedure, known as PPH (Patent Prosecution Highway). It is an important agreement because it will increase efficiency in the process of patent applications. Currently this procedure is done in 36 months, for that reason INDECOPI is positioned as one of the most agile administrations worldwide.
It also provides the possibility to Peruvian inventors to obtain a faster protection of their inventions in Spain. It would be possible to request an accelerated procedure for processing patents before the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO).
INDECOPI and the French National Institute of Industrial Property
An agreement was signed in order to create mechanisms of collaboration and support on intellectual property issues.
INDECOPI and the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM)
By means of a cooperation agreement, both offices look for joining efforts and achieving greater efficiency in the protection of IP rights, including trademarks and other industrial property rights.
