Data exchange agreement with China
The Director of the National Institute of Industrial Property of Chile, Maximiliano Santa Cruz, and Liao Tao, Deputy Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China (SIPO) signed an agreement regarding the exchange of patent databases.
This cooperation is part of a series of activities that the offices are carrying out since the signing of the Cooperation Agreement in February 2012, and which has led to a good relationship between both PTOs.
Currently SIPO is the national patent office that receives the most patent applications per year, for example 825,000 were submitted in 2013.
The SIPO patent database contains English abstracts that will be very useful for INAPI, taking into account that Chile´s PTO is acting as an International Search Authority and International Preliminary Examination Authority (ISA / IPEA) within the Patent Cooperation Treaty, PCT.
