During the celebration of the Day of the Creole Song (“Dia de la canción Criolla”), the Peruvian PTO (Indecopi) reminded citizens of Peru the importance of buying original music and dismissing pirate versions, thus maintaining the defense of the rights of local authors, composers and music producers.
Local authorities explained that piracy not only means an administrative offense punishable with fines but constitutes an offense under the Peruvian Criminal Code with sentences of up to eight years of prison.
