Courts specialized in customs offences are reactivated

Due to the higher amounts of local smuggling, the Peruvian courts specialized in customs offences and intellectual property were reactivated. This decision is grounded in the alarming growth of smuggling in the past few years.

The local authority likely will arrange training (in customs offences and intellectual property matters) for judges.

The local PTO, INDECOPI, along with local authorities (such as the Police and the State Prosecutor’s Office) fight against any illegal act, including copyright matters.

During the last year, fines for copyright infringements were imposed for the amount of  S/. 5,525,982  (approximately 16,909,504 dollars) and seized illegal objects with an estimate value of  S/. 7,566,543  (approximately 23,153,621 dollars).
