“.lat”: Joining the World’s Domain Stage
The new web domain .lat was requested before the ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) recently and has been accepted, according to the Latin American and Caribbean Federation for Internet and Electronic Commerce (eCOM-LAC).
According to Anthony Harris, executive director of eCOM-LAC, the domain .lat is an important step as it is an id for all latin American countries, without making any distinctions. It is an opportunity to identify a certain company, person or entity as Latin.
.LAT will be available for approximately US $30 per year starting March 2015. These domain names will be sold by the Uruguayan company (eCOM-LAC. The entities that have registries of trademarks will have priority based on the date of application for this new web domain.
