Master´s Degree in Latin American IP
Each year since 2013, the Austral University (Buenos Aires, Argentina) organizes a Regional Edition of its Master´s Degree in Intellectual Property with a specific focus on Latin America, in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Argentinian Institute of Industrial Property (INPI).
As in each year since the launch of the program, Mariano Municoy, a lawyer at Moeller IP Advisors, will teach the course “Trademarks and other designations.” This year´s edition will focus on current regulations established by international treaties, such as the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) and the Paris Convention.
The academic program of this Master´s Regional Edition seeks to analyze in-depth the intellectual property in the region and train agents who make efficient use of intangible assets in Latin America.
In addition to a in depth evaluation of the theoretical foundations, the program also will be focused on the management and administration of intellectual property rights within institutions, companies, associations, research institutes and government agencies of the Latin American region.
Mr. Municoy will teach one of the 8 lectures of the course, and he will analyze, from a Latin American perspective and using the case method, the different reasons that lead to the expiry of trademark registrations as well as the legal consequences thereof. Special focus will be given to administrative and/or judicial nullity actions and lapse as well as their interrelation with renewal, re-filing, use, bad faith, speculation, proof of use and force majeure, among others.
