Mexican and Japanese PTOs continue collaboration
On July 2, 2015, the Director General of the Mexican PTO (IMPI), Miguel Angel Margáin, and Hitoshi Ito, Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office (JPO) met in Tokyo with the aim of renewing the ongoing collaboration between both offices.
They agreed to tighten their institutional cooperation through the implementation of improved practices for the patent granting process, patentability information and technology information solutions. Additionally, the bilateral activities carried out for several years will be evaluated and promoted.
The JPO has offered training to the IMPI in several IP-related subjects, such as in the substantive examination of trademarks and patents.
During the meeting, both offices highlighted the benefits obtained with the Patent Prosecution Highway Program that has run as a permanent program between IMPI and JPO since November 1, 2012, and which allows reduced workload for patent examiners.
