Mexico participates in conference of South Asian PTOs
The Director General of the Mexican PTO (IMPI),Miguel Angel Margáin, participated in the “Head of Intellectual Property Office Conference (HIPOC) for Countries in South Asia and Southeast Asia Phase I” organized by the World Intellectual Property Office (WPO) in cooperation with the Japan Patent Office (JPO), held in Tokyo (Japan) from June 29-30, 2015.
Participants to this conference, which included invited speakers from IP law firms, PTOs and universities from North America and Europe, participants discussed about the challenges that PTOs face, such as the operation of the national patent, trademark and design registries, the reduction of backlogs and the training of staff, among others.Mexico was the only invited country from the Latin American region.
During his presentation, Margáin talked about the implementation of new online services by IMPI in order to simplify procedures. He added that IMPI continues to work in the development and implementation of high quality services with the aim of measuring up to the best PTOs worldwide.
“These meetings allow us to join efforts to know the best practices and mechanisms that operate in other intellectual property offices worldwide, and their criteria regarding patents and trademarks, which is very beneficial to IMPI,” concluded Margáin.
