Official fees for INAPI as PCT ISA/IPEA
As part of the implementation process that the Chilean National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI) is carrying out to work as an International Searching Authority (ISA) and International Preliminary Examining Authority (IPEA) for patents filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), it has recently announced the applicable official fees as from October 22, 2014.
The International Search fee will be USD 2000 and there will be a reduced fee of USD 400 for Latin American applicants. Regarding the International Preliminary Examination fee, this will be USD 400 for Latin American users and USD 1500 for applicants from other countries.
Additionally, in order to encourage the development of IP protection policies, innovation and technology transfer at universities, these entities will have a special fee for both the International Search and the Preliminary Examination of USD 300.
By means of these fees, INAPI wants to reduce costs for applicants to file PCT applications and also encourage the use of this system in Latin America.
