Online trademark filings hit new high
The number of trademark applications filed in Brazil in April 2015 through the online platform “e-marcas” (e-trademarks) increased to 99 percent of the total number of applications filed.
According to the data published by the Brazilian PTO (INPI), since the launch of the system “e-marcas” in 2006, the number of online trademark applications have been on the rise, reaching a 94 percent in 2014 compared to a 45 percent in 2007.
In April 2015, the INPI received 12,789 trademark applications, of which 12,667 were filed online and only 122 on paper. The results of INPI for the first quarter of 2015 indicate that from the 48,275 trademark applications received, 98.8 percent were online applications.
The INPI manages another two electronic filing systems: one for patents (e-patente), launched in 2013, and another for industrial designs, recently launched and running since April 22, 2015.
