PTO launches new electronic system
The Brazilian PTO (INPI) recently launched a new electronic system for the online filing of patents (peticionamentoeletrônico de patentes). The platform, which offers discounts on service fees,is already up and running.
The new system offers the possibility of filing patents without the need for a token (electronic signature) or download of a program. Along with the new online system, the old platform for patent filing, e-deposito, is still available. The old system requires download of a program and electronic signature.
Currently, the new electronic system is only available for initial patent filings. In the future it is expected that other services will also be available on the platform.
The launched platform, which has a user-friendly graphical interface, also directs the user in completing the filing forms and documents.
The INPI expects that within the following six months, 90 percent of the patent filings will be made online, through either of the two existing online platforms.
