“Sello de origen” expands with new trademarks applications
Under the IP protection program “Label of Origin,” applications for recognition as three varieties of certification trademarks (“Sueños de Chilote”; “Raices Chilotas”; and “Esencia Chilota”) were filed in the Chilean PTO on September 26th. Furthermore, the owners of the trademark “Cristal de Ulmo” filed the application so their trademark would be recognized as a collective trademark. All four trademarks identify traditional products that were developed in the region called “Los Lagos.” The local Los Lagos government will be the owner of these trademarks.
It is important to note that certification trademarks and collective trademarks provide a special protection against unfair competition to the producers and exporters of the products identified by the trademarks “Sueños de Chilote”, “Raices Chilotas”,“Esencia Chilota and “Cristal de Ulmo”, as well as help encourage tourist development.
