Two PTOs continue cooperation
In an effort to strengthen regional cooperation in recent years and achieve better protection of IP rights, the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) and the National Office of Industrial Property of Dominican Republic (ONAPI) recently renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which was in force since 2012, through February 28, 2018.
The MOU between the offices was signed by Miguel Angel Margáin, Director General of IMPI, and Ruth Alexandra Lockward Reynoso, Director General of ONAPI. The signing took place during a training workshop on procedures by Receiving Offices under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), organized by IMPI and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in May 2015.
Some of the cooperation activities covered by the agreement comprise the exchange of information about new developments and the performance of joint projects to encourage the use of IP tools.
Representatives of both PTOs agreed on the fact that the memorandum is an example of the close collaboration between the two countries and the result of the work of both offices regarding regional cooperation in IP.
